Taming Little Beastie

My ig, Little Beastie has been freaking out lately when I go to give him his food and handle him. It's the usual bravado - tail lashing, jumping around, etc., only the last two times, he's crapped on me. I don't think I've been handling him enough. Could this be the problem? I usually handle him for about 5 minutes each morning when I give him food and that's usually after he's had about an hour and a half to warm up. I'm going to try to handle him a couple times a day for more than 5 minutes and also see if I can entice him to be more cordial by offering him some raspberries (he seems to like brightly colored food items like his red bell pepper bits and little carrot bits). Any other suggestions? Oh, and also when I handle him it usually consists of slowly stroking his sides and the back of his head/neck and chin.
