I'm very sorry to hear about your BD. I'm sure someone here will offer some kind of good advice for hydration.
In the meantime, was the vet able to offer any ideas as to how it happened (congenital? virus? bacteria?) I'm interested because we too have a BD with liver problems. He started turning a ghastly yellowish colour around his eyes and mouth. Had x-rays done, and according to the 'herp' vet this BD has no internal organs. Went back three times for more pics at no charge, - and I saw them for myself. (My ignorant interpretation was that there was some kind of deposits in all of his organs, -or he was truly an alien.) I had just learned about ig care, and it suddenly struck me looking at the x-ray that his suddenly deformed lower jaw, squishy mushy mouth, and thin bones were MBD!!!! D-uh! Vet said no way, BD's don't get that. Well B.S. to that - I was LOOKING at it!!! End of story - went home, bought UVB lights, instantly dropped the diet of 50 - 75% king worms and crickets. Fed ig salad with NO hard to digest food...no peas, beans, or corn - and increased watery foods like a small piece of cucumber, and sweet (butter)lettuce. It took a while, (syringe fed him paedialyte and vit. B in the meantime) but he finally started eating it -- and now he just dives into the salad like a starving thing - and he is nice and plump. No progression of the MBD, but still a very squishy mouth. He gets no protein at all, and no supplements. That was nearly three years ago.
Maybe something in my story will help? He is still yellow, but I think liver damage is irreversable. But obviously mine didn't have "liver FAILURE"; does your for sure? And maybe what I did was not correct -- but he is still with us and did not get worse. I wish you the best.
Wendy.
