I got my first iguana when I was 10, didn't have a clue...
then waited 20 years to get my next.
My 5 year old IGGY is the healthyist, most beautiful 4+ foot iguana I have ever seen (but fathers are always biased)
There is such a influx of imported iguanas (I have heard over 100K a year), that you know that there will be a lot of stores carrying the lizards, who don't have a clue.

So let's be realistic...
Iguanas are cheap, people (businesses) buy them not knowing what they are getting into- from people who don't know what they are selling.
It's a fact of life right now-can't change it.

When I don't take the cute babys home, I know that in most cases they will end up in inadequate living conditions and or dead.
I also know if this market wasn't here- we would be remove a money making business that uses the rain forest as income.

I was in Costa Rica last December, they have an iguana farm that they raise more meat per acre than you can with cows here, and you don't have to do anything, just let them live in the rainforest.
I don't think I could eat any, but as long as we give the people something to market in the rainforest for a living, instead of burning it down, sounds good to me.
And for you health conscience folks, they say... tastes like chicken..... with half the cholestoral...

O.K. maybe I would have tried a McIguana (didn't get a chance), but if I crashed in the mountains with only people to eat, I may do that too, probably wouldn't taste as good.

Call me an insensitive *%$#@, or just a crazy *&%$#, but I'm a realist.
If you want to save your pet store, go work for them.
Quit complaining and teach them. They don't know, they are just like you and me, just less knowledgeable. So save an iguanas life today, quit ignoring the problem, approach the ignorant in an intelligent way, and they will listen.
If you just complain, you are part of the problem, think about it, if you pass along knowledge, then these animals will have better homes.
