I will start this by saying I am absolutely new to the world of pet iguanas. I recently acquire a very young green ig, knowing nothing about them, besides the fact that they are vegetarians (predominately). After spending only about $7 on the ig, I soon ofound out I needed to spend another $150 or so to provide a habitat. I have a 29 gallon aquarium, with an overhead fluorescent light (UVA and UVB light) and a heating pad underneath. We have offered the ig a variety of food including Zoomed's juvenile ig food, as well as green beans, tomato, grapes, lettuce, broccoli, sweet potato, bell pepper, and rose petals. It doesn't seem interested in anything. I am aware of the fact that the ig's cage isn't currently as hot as it should be. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get overhead heat lamps yet (for budgetary reasons). The average temp is about 75 deg. F. Could this be the reason for the apparent hunger strike? Or could it be something else? Is this normal for a young iguana in a new setting? I've had the ig for about four days already, and I've only seen him eat maybe one or two grapes. Also, I am aware that the food needs to be shredded up and I have done that. Any suggestions?
