: I have two different floods a 160 & 300 watt. I only run them during the winter months...for 3 hours a day (on timers)....and with a plywood gaurd/shield with a bunch of holes drilled in it separating them from the lamps(Im paranoid!). My iguanas are outside almost daily weather permitting here in Cali. I personally would NOT run the lamps 8 hours a day.
: Anywhere from 1-3 hours only because of the uvb strength emitted. Active Heat e-mailed me quite some time ago and said that they would be posting recommendations for species and how long to have the bulbs on. I have not been to their site and don't know if they sent info to you when you bought your lamps like they did mine w/o the recommendations which was why I e-mailed them.
: What are the temps in your cage (basking and ambient) How far away are the Active Heatlamps positioned from your iguana? What is the wattage and type (flood or spot) of Active UVHeat lamps? What kind of foods in his daily diet is your iguana getting , most importantly how old is your iguana?
: My igs have only been thru one complete shed since using Active Heat...but that's typical for them now that they are older...their heads still shed periodically (every 6 months or so). They both had a physical (5-00) and all labs are within range (finally!) I would be very concerned about the health of your iguana....(I think you posted about your iguana sitting at the bottom of his cage) iguanas do that from time to time...so its perfectly normal...I would suspect parasites, too high temps, dehydration some other type of health related problem, going on causing you the concern. The temps could be related to the Active uV. If you could answer those few questions...I can try & figure out what may be going on!

I figured the strength was too high--he is in a 4 ft open cage which is hard to really know what the light is - his diet consists of yellow and green squash, red and green peppers, carrots, and collard greens, mustard greens, romaine - 35 to 75% ratio--he eats about everything but for 2 years old he is only 2 ft and has not shed since I used this light. ANy suggestions?
