Hey Iz's Mom...Yeah...It looks like the vet over at Herp Health...was talking about elemental calcium...and not the calcium content. Elemental calcium just deals with the amount of raw calcium in EVERY type of calcium supplement generic carb, calcium phosphate, calcium citrate, lactate..they all have varying amounts of elemental calcium...even food has elemental calcium. We give our igs collards...about 50mg of calcium per 36 gms of collards...only about 20mg of calcium is actually being absorbed. There's a bookmark I have somewhere showing the calcium breakdown of various veggies we give our igs. But where? I dunno....I gotta get organized someday! Getting back to the vet over at Herp Health...How can anyone give 90mg of calcium? He had to mean elemental calcium for dosaging. I found a few links to kinda help exlain elemental calcium...don't know if they will help you or confuse you tho ;-)! The 600 mg listed on your Tums for 2 tabs would be elemental calcium, because Tums EX has 750mg of cal carb. at 40% elemental calcium that = 300 mg calcium. From that about 10% or 30mmol of calcium actually used. I was reading about calcium absorption in my nutrition books..(Still can't seem to locate my Calcium Connection book)...but anyway...saying something to the effect cal carb seems that more absorbed if given throughout the day intermittantly vs. what one doc at work told me at night only. Don't know what you would want to do with that. I'd really keep IZs protein down ...no alfalfa, legumes! lolol there I go telling you what to do lolol...I don't know its just prolly what I would do I guess (I do it anyway...ig with kid. disease or not!) I hope some of these links will help you with determining a dosage for Iz. Remember only for about 2 months! Cal carb use in phorphorus binding should not be any longer ...may need to start again at another time but for now stick with a 2 month regime.I think Im gonna quit before I dig myself deeper and confuse you anymore!

Elemental Calcium
The amount of raw calcium a supplement contains. While this is an accurate measure of how much calcium a given supplement contains before it is taken, bioavailability is a measure of how much usable calcium can be absorbed by the body
*******
Bioavailibility
The degree of activity or amount of an administered drug or other substance that becomes available for activity in the target tissue.
