i am unable to find anything substantionally *negative* about either of these substances, other than the fact that they are *not* FDA approved and tested ... cannot find any harmful side effects from their use + have been searching for *negative* articles about them ... the biggest negative i can find is that they haven't been tested + approved by the various powers that be ...

some snippets of notes ...

MSM ~ (sulfur) ~
... reduces inflammation and enhances circulation. ...

per the FDA, it is not toxic.

lots of positive info on it's use in animals ... horses, dogs, cats ...

... Sulfur, it has been learned, plays many roles in a horse's body, such as stimulating the growth of hair, hide, and hoofs, connective tissue and enzymes, hormones, and immuno-globulins ...

... Research has shown that MSM is helpful in improving joint flexibility, reducing stiffness and swelling, improving circulation and cell vitality, reducing pain and scar tissue, and in breaking up calcium deposits. According to Earl L. Mindell, R.Ph., Ph.D., MSM makes cells more permeable, enabling the body to flush out undesirable foreign particles. ...

Approximately half of the total body sulfur is concentrated in the body's muscles, skin, and bones. It is present in keratin, the tough substance in the skin, nails and hair. Sulfur is necessary for making collagen, the primary constituent of cartilage and connective tissue, but it is also responsible for the conformation of body proteins through the formation of disulfide bonds, which hold connective tissue together. ... Tests conducted with laboratory animals indicated that wound healing occurred faster with a group receiving MSM ...

MSM is non-allergenic, non-pyretic, and has no interfering or undesirable pharmacological effects. You cannot overdose with MSM - the body will use what it needs and flush out the rest without harm ...

Dr. Lawrence has treated more than 1,000 patients with MSM. According to Lawrence, "It's safer than water." Patients at the Oregon Health Sciences University who have received oral MSM as part of their treatment show no toxic build-up, even after years of ingesting more than 2,000mg of MSM each day. It appears that the body uses what it requires and flushes out the rest within 12 hours. ...

As reported on the Veterinary Information Network, one practitioner estimates ". . . about 80% of owners feel their pet is benefited by the use of MSM. I began by using it on animals that did not respond to or were not good candidates for NSAIDs. I have not see any side effects except a rare dog that would get soft BM from it. ...

Colloidal Silver ~

per FDA, non-toxic

... over 90% of orally ingested silver is not absorbed, and the liver's biliary system actively excretes it. ...

The only side effect of using colloidal silver is that is a condition known as agyria, a gray discoloration of heavy folds of skin, such as knuckles. Agyria is harmless but not very attractive. This condition has occurred in instances of with prolonged used of over-concentrated colloidal silver solutions.
