I have run into that same issue. I bought the same stuff (from PetSmart)and it also had expired the month before I bought it.
Unfortuneately, I did not question the PetSmart employees, I just threw the stuff out and bought some more from another pet store. Personally, I wouldn't really trust their answer anyways...something about a bunch of high-school students working part time at a pet store deciding the fate of my baby iguana that I do not trust.
I would be interested in the truthfullness of this "expiration date' information though.
