Yeah Ive heard about this....there's some kind of iguana mob group starting to confront Hatfield about it. Hatfields book has alot of flaws! A few imo...that it isn't as indepth;thorough as it could be, it isn't as well researched as it could be,relies a little to much on personal stories/experience, but its STILL a good book!
This is an no animal protein thing has been bothering me too as late.....so Ive been researching alot about it. Why so MANY iguana websites say "NO ANIMAL PROTEIN" then we turn around and suggest yogurt to replace beneficial microflora after a round of a/bs or anthelmintics. Contradictions like this get my goat lately (Im cranky right now too! Haven't had much sleep), but tofu is a GREAT source of (plant-soy)protein & calcium! fed in small amounts!Short term... low fat is best...and get the type bathed in calcium sulfate. All the other stuff....monkey biscuits, dog food...forget about...formulated for carnivores not herbivores.Even my dear sweet vet tells me to give my igs lo-fat dog food, and I just look at him like he's nuts....he doesn't get it...and tells me the same thing again and again. When I see him tomorrow (my igs physical) mark my words...he'll tell me give them dog food!
BLECH! Of course I don't do it NOW but there was a time I did at his recommendation. Not enough is known about iguanas yet...we're all in the dark here, but majority of the stuff I know now...I never knew even a year ago! That's how much its all changing...What Hatfield recommended then was okay THEN....not now...and we're ready to lynch him for it. Tch......soon the stuff we recommend now will be considered barbaric in a year from now I bet...Ut oh...Forget I said anything about tofu...ok!
Gina
