: Don't use a kerosene heater. You are right about the fumes, not to mention the fire hazard.
: If you put good a lighting/heating system in the cage you shouldn't need to crank up the room's heat.
: BTW - if you haven't finished building the enclosure, keep your mesh at the bottom of the cage and/or on the door. Heat rises and you want it to stay in there with Ziggi.
: You can easily install ceramic light sockets on the underside of the enclosure's "roof". Use an aluminum reflector dome with it and you've got great basking lights.
Thanks, but putting plywood around bottom so he won't nose rub much and maybe won't climb on the mesh as bad.
I want the whole room heated because I also have a gecko and 8 turtles. So that room is totally used just for reptiles so
I might as well change the temp. I will have the basking light on the outside along with my dual 4ft UVB tubes, resting on
top of the mesh. I might use wire on the top, unless the plastic can take the heat of the light bulbs(probably around 60-80 watt at the most, because my design
has the basking area about 8-10 inches from the top of cage).
If Kerosene won't work, guess I will use an electric heater, hopefully will only have to use it about a month!
North Carolina not too bad in the winter.
Thanks.
: : I got a quick question. Its gettin summer here so, keeping the room warm
: : will not be a problem! In the winter the room temp stays around 70, but when
: : it gets very cold(couple months out of year), I want to raise the temp in my
: : reptile room. By then Ziggi will be moved out of his 55G and into his 7'X4'X7.5'
: : enclosure with 3ft surrounded by plywood and 4ft and the top 1/2 inch plastic mesh!
: : Is it ok to use a kerosene heater, they heat very well and efficient, but kinda stink and
: : I don't want the fumes to hurt Ziggi? The room he's in is large, I would say 300-325 square foot room!
: : I could use electric, but costly, my central heat(2 vents)keep it pretty warm, but not like I like it.
: : Any ideas.
