Regarding black marks or DOTS - Harry's Dad covered that quite well. I'd like to point out one more thing though. Both my iguanas have the black dots on them; it's normal colorization for them. However, if you are ever looking at these dots and THEY MOVE...you'll be needing to read up on how to get rid of mites *grin* So remember dots don't move :o)
Second point....nail clipping. The first time you might want to get help from someone who has done this before. As like most dogs, igs nails are quite difficult to see thru so it's hard to know exactly where to cut so as not to hit the vein. ANYONE BACK THIS UP?---my OWN rule of thumb is to not clip close to the natural downward curve of the nail. You'll usually wind up only taking "tips" off which results in having to do it more often perhaps....but I like that better than a bleeding iggie finger ;o) Should you accidentally cause a bleed there are two things to help. ONE is plain flour. Dip bleeding toe/finger into flour. OR 2ND method is to dip in to Betadine solution.
Nice job Harry's Dad on the coloring of iguanas! Matt you might like to read the site I'll leave you regarding more colors...especially as they might relate to when an ig is "under the weather".
