Bastien's story... Tired of irresponsible herp's owners! (with pictures)

Here's a little story (another one!) about irresponsability and cruelty... Bastien is a male basilisk of undetermined age who really had some hard time in his life... He
was given to us by the owners of Magazoo, an excellent pet shop selling only herptiles and others kinds of "creepy crawlers" (Montreal, Qc)... He was brought there
by a man who wanted to sell his male basilisk because he ate too much and wasn't pretty enough... The poor thing was in a deplorable state (see picture) so the
owners of the pet shop refused to pay any money for him but offered to keep him anyway. The man was more than happy to get rid of him so he just left him there.
Knowing how much we loved our babies, they asked us if we wanted to adopt him, which of course, we did... And that's how Bastien became a member of our
family...

Poor creature! He was suffering from severe dehydratation and malnutrition (if not simply starvation!) and had an obvious multivitamins deficiency. He also had lost
2/3 of his tail (he had a huge necrotic zone at the end of it) and one toe on his right foot. The same foot was also cut in a transverse way. We also found snout
damage and many burns/scares everywhere on his body. Finaly, he had mites... But still, he was lovely with his bright yellow eyes and his sad little look... We still
don't understand how people can do such things... Guess we never will...

But two weeks later, our sweety is already doing a lot better! He drink a lot and eat like a pig (He ate around one fuzzy and 14 superworms per day in the fisrt few
days!) and he'll surely won't stay skinny for long! He also lost his sad look and start to be a lot more active.

Bastien still have a long road in front of him before he get healthy again (if he ever had the chance to be!) and that road will surely not be an easy one, but at least, his
not alone anymore on his path... :o)

Please, help stop animals abuse. Be responsible... And to all the others who really care, Thanks :o)
