Setting up for a big iguana

I just got a 4 ft iguana and cage for free. The thing is that there were maggots in the cage and it was hard to thoroughly clean since the insides were wood. Is it safe to polyeorethane or seal the walls? I will be using Astroturf for the bottom bedding instead of shavings. I also want to paint the outside of the enclosure with a washable black paint. Do you have any suggestions or comments. I want to make the enviroment as easy to clean. thank you.
