I'm just learning how to care for iguana's and have been doing all the research i can on there diets. I have seen alot of people sugget the MK diet. Now I'm deffinately no expert and I'm not sure I understand the ca/ph ratio completely. From what I can tell igs require a high cal and low ph ratio like 2:1 or 3:1 atleast right? If this is right then it appears MK's diet doesn't meet this criteria. Her diet is as follows:
1/2 cup green beans
1/2 cup squash
1/2 cup alfalfa pellets
1 medium parsnip
1/4 cup minced fruit
From what I have found the beans have 1.2:1 ratio
the squash has a .7:1 ratio (varies depending on the kind of squash) Given the benefit of doubt I'll say Butternut Squash which has a 1.6:1 ratio
Alfalfa pellets I'm not sure but alfalfa srpoust have about a .4:1 ratio
and parsnips have a .4:1 ratio
As far as the fruit I'm not sure what the ratio is but it would have to have atleast 154mg of Cal and 0 ph for the total ratio to be 2:1. Just from these items mentioned I come up with a .8:1 ratio (counting Butternut Squash...with summer squash it only comes to .68:1)
Maybe I'm doing this wrong. Like I said I'm no expert I'm just trying to go by what I'm finding on the net using as many resources as i can.
If I'm doing it wrong would somebody try to explain it to me.
Thanks
Mark
P.S. What is the min amount of Cal? From what I have seen it is 400-500mg and this diet only contains 110mg.
