Need Help Identifying Iguanid Species & Getting Specific Care Info

[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ The Iguana & Water Dragon Forum ] [ FAQ ]

Posted by Reptile Rescue on February 07, 2000 at 10:29:21:

The Toronto SPCA is just picked up an iguana out of a home, where the people were evicted and left all their animals behind, including 2 iguanas - one of which is a green iguana. These 2 iguanas are now part of our adoption program.

We are picking up these two iguanas, and already have a foster home for the green iguana.

I have not seen these iguanas yet, but apparently the vet at the shelter that treated them said the one is a black spiny iguana. It is only about 1ft long.

Has anyone heard of this type of iguana? Is there any place where I can get some care information on him. We have a foster home for him too but we want to make sure it is set up properly for this particular species, which we have never heard of. The vet apparently said it was a pretty rare species.

Any insight/help would be greatly appreciated!

Candace

p.s. An interesting note about the green iguana - he has a forked tail which starts about 6" back from the tip. Interesting eh?
