As a side note, the black iguana or black spiny tail iguana has been the common name associated with Ctenosaura Similis, and they aren't that rare. I know of a couple of people in California that have them.
As a general rule, Ctenosaura can be kept under the same conditions as Green Iguanas. Though they can, and many do, eat animal protien, they have been known to live full and productive lives without animal protien.
I have 2 C. pectinata (mexican spiny tails) and they both eat the same veggies/greens as my GGI's, plus some mealworms and stew beef a couple of times a week (supplimented with calcium as everything is deboned).
Like HD, if you can get me a picture, we can get it identified.
