Spike regeneration?

Bad Boy has had several spikes fall out over the last few weeks. I can see a 'break' in the color of the spikes where they began to dry out. Is it possible he got too close to the heat lamp? or could it be a vitamin deficiency? or is it normal to lose a few spikes? Does his being 'in season' have a bearing on the health of spikes and nails?

All his other spikes appear to be in good condition. The color is the same throughout. His general health is very good. He eats and poops like any 'normal' iguana---what an oxymoron---NORMAL iguana!

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
