: LOLOL....spikes seem to get strangulated off or injured off....get caught or cut, broken off by rubbing, squeezing into tight spots or strangulated from the casing not coming off during a shed. Both of my igs have missing spikes or curled, wavy spikes or frayed "splintered" at the top looking spikes....dehydration can affect the condition of spikes if not injured or strangulated. Depending on the circumstance they CAN grow back...but slower than a snails pace. Spike casings are ready to come off when you notice them turning an opaque color. These casings MUST come off...rubbing a little oil and massaging it at the base of the casing help to ease the casing off....sometimes those casings are very resistant and its painful to your ig if they are not ready to come off...but misting them frequently and massaging oil at the base helps to loosen em if not one day then the next few. They don't have the luxury of rubbing the casings off as they would in the wild between branches as they climb through the trees. Don't think "breeding" season has much impact on the condition of their spikes...though...haven't read much on it anyway.
