I have the awful duty to let everyone know that Elmo passed away on Friday afternoon. He was rushed into the vet on Thursday afternoon and the vet examined him and said that if he survives the night, things are looking good. Elmo did survive the night but unfortunately passed away later on Friday.
He was such a little fighter and his owner is every upset (as am I - the keyboard is awfully wet right now) as she loved him dearly. He was a sweet iguana who had some very large obstacles placed in front of him, but he overcame them to surprise everyone.
The most heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who held on for Elmo and sent their prayers, wishes and hugs to him and his owner. You are truly all very special people - people who care a great deal for all the reptiles out there! The world needs more people like yourselves! Elmo's owner does not have access to the Internet, but was extremely touched by your kind words.
Elmo, although he was very sick for most of his life, was a happy little guy, who was extremely well looked after and loved greatly. I am sure that everyone will miss him. I do, and I have never even met him.
But let us not let Elmo's death be in vain - we are now trying to prove that he was a wild-caught specimen, smuggled into Canada, and sold under the pretense that he was captive-bred. So far we have not been able to determine that there are any desert iguana breeders in Canada - everyone seems to suspect that all the ones available here are wild-caught. If anyone out there has any insight I would definitely be interested in it. I am working on this on behalf of Elmo and his owner. What happened to Elmo was not fair and should not be left alone.
Once again, thank you everyone one for praying and rooting for Elmo. You are truly very special people.
