Thank you for letting me know that most are wild caught which is unfortunate.

Elmo's owner was assured by a very insistive pet store employee that he was captive bred but they would not release any contact information. We are definitely going to have to push this one. She said she would never had gotten Elmo if she knew he was wild-caught as she does not want to add to the problem.

: Majority of desert iguanas sold ARE wild caught. If sold under the pretense that Elmo was captive bred in Canada then I'd say the person who sold Elmo as such is in alot of trouble if he/she is unwilling to provide information of supplier; breeder. Your friend needs to contact the person/store he/she got Elmo from and trace it from there.I know of no breeders of desert igs in Canada but the person who sold him to your friend MUST know where he came from ...and should give you contact information. If your friend only thought it was captive bred...that's another story. Either way...my condolences to your friend....sounds like everything that could be done for Elmo was....sometimes there is no one to blame in situations like this :-(
