well, i apologize in advance for the long post, but i'm gonna try to give you all the info instead of just asking the questions ~

iZ was really really a few weeks ago ~ he tested positive for salmonella + is on a 10 day run of Baytril ~ whether it was the salmonella or something else, i don't know for sure but he is MUCH improved after the first 6 days ~ his appetite is finally coming back and he's pooping ig-turds again instead of the rabbit pellets he was trying to pass of as his own for a couple weeks there ~

the only thing i can't find about salmonella is, if it's on your clothes after carrying your ig, how long does the bacteria stay active/viable/contagious????

next one ~ since iZ has been sick ~ about 3 weeks now ~ i've noticed something really weird ~ the big scales on his jowls started to shed about the same time he got sick ~ and then they just kinda quit in mid-shed! don't know how else to explain it ~ have never seen anything like this ~ the middle of the scale won't shed ~ it's almost acting more like a scab instead of a scale ~ it's causing the entire new scale to get all dried out + weird looking ~ some of the scales that DID actually shed, now look ... weird ... that's the only word i can up with! they look like leather ~ not smooth + hard like they should ~ have put mineral oil on them the last couple nights + not really noticed any improvement in such a short time ~ iZ does NOT usually like his shed messed with, but he very obviously appreciated the oil being rubbed on ~ i looks so itchy and uncomfortable!!!
gentle rubbing doesn't loosen them up at all tho ~ am wondering if i should try something besides the oil?? specifically, i'm wondering about using some Novagen (sp???) anti-biotics drops to rub on them???

husbandry info ~ iZ's room is about 90 degrees ~ does have a cool corner too ~ have a cool-mist humidifier in there so the air is not too dry ~ he has a drinking 'pond' ~ he takes tub soaks at least every other day ~ everything else on his lovely green bod, has been shedding with no problems what-so-ever ~ even the spikes + the kink in his tail~ ~

thanks!
iZ +mom
