Hi Carrie,
We have two igs that pretty much free roam,,and do not cause us any problems with breakage or curtain climbing(because we have blinds). We also have 3 bds that hang with our ig Cirsis and we have two monitors that also free roam. How they did this,,and they did do it themselves,,was, the igs & bds seem to like it high,as on furniture and in the windows,so we watched Cirsis and I put her in the same window everyday, and she seemed to like that spot,so it was a heating pad(for winter)a hanging shop lite (for warmth)and she knows her way to the tub on her own.Go(new ig) likes our bedrooms window and so the same set up for him.I guess they see the monitors on the floor and figure they're safe high and he can have the lowly floor beneath them. We're also very lucky in that we live in Fla and they go outside every day for natural sunshine,so we don't set up vita lites for them inside the house. They each have a large cage but pretty spartan in furnishings because they pretty much just sleep in them.Sorry I can't tell you more about how to set up a free roam area.Ours just seem to follow the sun in the windows so that's where we set up their basking spots.
