I just adopted another iguana, bringing my total up to 4.I got a call last night from a frantic parent who had bought some snakes from me for her son.She said her son asked her if he could have an iguana, and since he cared for his snakes very well and was a responsible young man she agreed. So he brought the iguana home. The iguana had been a pet of a local gaming store, who kept the animal in one of the extra glass display cases. But they didnt want it anymore and I found out why.

The iguana is savage beyond all comprehension.I seen a lot of iguanas over the years. Some have been tame to the point of affectionate or so it would seem, others would tolerate handling but could be moody and some just didnt like people. But Ive never met an iguana like this.

So she begged me for help. What could she do with this animal? They managed to get the animal out of the box and into its tank (just barely) with a thick pair of work gloves. But every time her son tried to open the tank the igauna would try to bite him. They couldnt deal with it and she didnt know what to do.So I told her I would take it and try to find a home for it since its obvious that these two very nice people just aernt experienced enough to handle the little demon.

So I picked him up from thier home.Hes everything they said he was. When I entered the room he flattened his body and hissed at me.As I apporached the tank I got the tail lashes and when I opened the tank he charged me!Wow!Well I went 2/3 falls with him and got him home.Hes only 2 feet long total length and very thin but hes fiesty as hell.

Hes a little battered but not emaciated.Hes missing a few toes, which have healed over.Hes missing a portion of his tail and has several scars and thermal burns on his abdomen that just have to have been from a hot rock.Hes got an appointment at the vet Monday for a check up and stool sample and possibly rehydration.

I was in the process of contructing a new cage for my youngest iguana, but it looks like this guy will be the tentant until further notice. He is seperated from the other iguanas in a different room just in case hes harboring a disease or parasites. And fortunately hes in a quiet room, which hopefully will make him calm down..even a little.Hes a demon.

Hes in the cage, hes warm,he has his UVB light, hiding places, large water bowl and a few perches. He needs more but as I said the cage is still a work in progress.I offered him food but of course hes way too flipped out right now to even think about eating.Im just gonna let relax until monday. The visit to the vet should be a hoot.Hes meaner then any Nile monitor I have ever encountered. My only guess was he was harrased during his entire stay at this gaming store. And he has the injuries to prove it.

Its gonna be a long rocky road....
