Freezing Iguana Eggs

Seems this is becoming a HOT topic on the forum. For those of you who are unware of WHY this is recommended, I'll try to explain.

IF by chance the eggs are fertile, by putting them in the freezer, you have just lessen the chance of them hatching accidently if you merely threw them in the trash. If the eggs are simpily thrown in the trash, there is a slim chance that they could hatch after spending time in a land fill (dump). None of us want iglets hatching in a dump! They wouldn't survive the first cold snap.

As you know, HD and I are against breeding iguanas (too many already out there). However, we know of people who do let there iguanas mate only to help with male aggression during breeding season and only if the male does tear the poo ooout of the female. What happens to those or any eggs? You freeze and dispose of them. Some owners feed them to their egg eating reptiles. Some go as far as eating the eggs themselves (yuck).

Regardless if your male iguana is neutered or not or even if you do not have a male ig, your female ig will develop eggs. Having a female ig, you always run the risk of egg binding.

Bottom line is, dispose of any iguana eggs in a responsible way, whether there is a chance of the eggs being fertile or not.
