Adam and I speak everynow and then, so I feel pretty comfortable asking him how he feels about captive reproduction of iguanas and his feelings about freezing eggs. He lives in Australia, and his net time is limited, so a reply might take a while. I'll post it as soon as I get it.

As for Jim Hatfield, I am friends with 2 women who had met him and one who corespond with him on a regular basis. I'll ask her to send him a letter asking him how he feels...I'll post that too, if Mr. Hatfield isn't too busy to respond. Be back to you all soon.

: :The attitude prevalent on this forum boggles my mind. Maybe someone should write letters to Jim Hatfield, Adam Briton, and other ig "authorities" and see what they say about captive breeding. It seems to me that there are people here who have relatively little herp experience advising people to take some truly ridiculous measures to "save" green igs. There seems to be an overly extremist agenda being promoted here. Freezing viable eggs, attacking people who have the nerve to breed their own animals, what's next? Posts on how to liberate pet store igs? How to firebomb your local PetSmart?!?! I hate to be so harsh, but there are peoplewho have thought longer and harder about this problem, and have more experience, that have come to an entirely different conclusion than you. This "anti-breeding" stance is based on a visceral reaction rather than a well thought out plan of action. Again, this is a many sided problem not just with igs, but large reptiles in general; and to condemn captive breeding as part of the problem is a straw man argument. It isn't happening enough to make a difference. It does, however, make an easy target.
