If you are raising your 1st iguana through his 1st breeding season, then it's safe to assume you aren't very experienced with igs. Am I wrong?
:" If Local breeders are producing iguanas....and importers are importing....just where do you think all these million+ iguanas are going to go??? "
This is where you and reality part company. There are no "local breeders" producing CB iguanas, and I don't see any reason they would start. CB IGUANAS ARE NOT PROFITABLE. Breeders are trying to pay their bills, not lose money. The only people breeding iguanas are private keepers who do it for their own reasons ("I've come into contact with fewer than 10 pet owners within the last 6 years who have actually bred and hatched iguanas."-James Hatfield III from Green Iguana\the ultimate owners manual), and the people who end up buying them are glad they have a better alternative to "mass produced" igs. Not everyone wants to take on someone else's poorly planned mistake.
"If this country is already over run by unwanted and dying iguanas, what intelligent mind would want or could justify producing more iglets??? Oh the skilled and more knowledgeable.....LOL don't make me laugh. Give me and others a good reason for producing more iguanas right now???"
I don't pretend to know the solutions to the large reptile crisis. But you can condemn all captive breeding, take in as many orphan igs as you can,and pat yourself on the back all you want. It isn't going to do a damn thing to change the situation as a whole. I can think of quite a few people who stopped taking in unwanted igs not because they stopped caring, but because for every one they took in, 5 more were left on their doorstep. Obviously, that is NOT a solution. Again, it takes a big heart to deal with unwanted igs, and I admire the people who do it, but if you think you are going to find a good home for every ig out there, you are living on a different planet. This was a problem long before you started keeping igs, and unless something changes drastically, it will still be a problem until the day igs become hard to find.
"One other thing......if you'd like to continue this in emails let me know....I'd wish that we'd NOT post this topic on the board. It's been
done over and over."
I felt compelled to get into "this" after you felt you had the right to badger someone who asked a valid question about moldy eggs. Also, you do not represent the entire iguana keeping community, and I thought a differing opinion couldn't hurt. =)
