Well, it's cost me a lot of time and more than a little skin, But the Garoot is responding better than hoped. He now looks more like a lizard and less like yeaterday's road-kill. His disposition has improved as well. I am starting to think that he differentiates among us. Example: I now get almost no threat gesture: he hasn't tried to tail-slap me in quite a while. My daughter still gets swiped at occasionly, and he wants no part of the grandkids or a stranger. Interesting, no?
We whacked back his bayernets last weekend. It was so easy, it wasn't any fun. I first told him all about the nice BD at the pet store (true) and how they'd be happy to take an Iguana as a down payment (outrageous lie, but he doesn't know that). Then I set him on my knee and my daughter trimmed him with no bloodshed from anyone involved.
He has accepted the limb as his home territory and there is a shelf just under it with food and water. Took him a while to figure out the shelf. Spends most of his time on top of the limb under the UV.
Tomorrow, I'm going to take him to a friend who knows, to see about that discoloration on his belly. We are certain it is a burn scar, but want some conformation. He is going to freak out BIGTIME, but I feel that it will be a good experience, sorta like training, for him.
So, all in all, I think he's doing not half bad.
