: My iguana had the exact same thing. They looked like black patches on the legs, arms and some on her back. I took her to the vet. The vet prescribed antibiotics for her due to the fact that. He said that the mites had inbedded themselves under her skin and which may be causing an infection. He recommended Betadine baths along with the antibiotics. He scrapped away one of the black areas and it was pretty inflamed. The treatment seemed to work very well. She was moved to a new enclosure, given baths and the medicine. The areas are now like scar tissue. Have turned greyish white. Front legs have regained total green color. She looks like a new girl. If the mites get this bad, I think they really need to be looked at by a professional. Otherwise there are some home remedies for mites.
There are no vets around my area that handle exotic aniamls such as iguanas. If I were to find a place to go, how much would u guess it would cost for this treatment and anitbiotic? We already took the cage outside, cleaned it very good with bleach and water. I've been giving him baths with water and a little bit of vinegar and he seems to be doing ok. He's a very young guy, not even 1 year yet. Are there any other things I could do, besides going to a vet? You mentioned home remedies, what could I do?
