Hi! Gina saw my questions and comments on Phaedra's Forum and suggested I post here. I had never found this sight on my own. So, thanks, Gina. My iguana, Lizzy, is 3-4 years old. My nephew gave her to my two boys
a couple of Christmases ago. She was 11" long and almost dead. He had kept her under a desk lamp 24/7. He offered her dried iguana food, which she would not eat. I bought books, and stayed on the net for hours
trying to educate myself on iguanas. Today she is 41" long and beautiful. She would sit on my shoulder all day if I could let her. She is definitely a one-person iguana. She will only eat for me. She rarely lets
anyone else hold her, however, she is not mean. She is potty-trained to the tub in our spare bathroom. This makes for a great free roaming ig. Around the beginning of the summer her appetite began to dwindle.
A couple of weeks ago she completely quit eating. I questioned if she might be gravid. Craig, at Phaedra's Forum, was very helpful. I took her to the vet three days ago and found on her x-ray 16-17 eggs!! The
guy is not a specialist on iguanas, but was able to read the x-ray. He irritated me somewhat when he began handling her. It was obvious he had not handled many igs. He tried to grab her around the neck and manhandle
her. I tried to tell him I would carry her to the x-ray table, she was used to me, and that he was going to hurt her! After she scratched him up pretty good (hahahahaha) he relented. When I got ready to leave the
office, he asked me how I was able to get her to bond with me. Dumb guy, knows so little about the personality of igs! I did find a vet in Atlanta, TX, that has experience with iguanas. If she has any problems
with her eggs, that's who we'll visit. In the meantime she roams the house continually looking for..a mate? ..a nesting site? She will stretch up on her back legs to reach a window or door, and then scratch on the
glass like a dog wanting out! It pitiful. I feel so sorry for her. I am seriously considering having he spayed as soon as possible. Which brings up a question-can she be spayed at any time? If she were to become
egg bound, could the vet remove the eggs and spay her at the same time?
I look foward to visiting this site and sharing ig stories!
