Hi, Penny and welcome to the forum!
You wanted to know whether or not your iguana can be spayed anytime, so I thought I'd tell you what I know. Most reptile vets will *not* spay a female iguana unless she is currently gravid. The reason is, when an iguana is not gravid, her reproductive organs (the ones that need removed) are very small and hard to get at. I have heard it compared with a very small pile of caviar. When it is filled with eggs it is extremely large and easy to get to. Some reptile vets will try it if they are not gravid, but it is not recommended as errors are not uncommon. For the safety of your reptile, I suggest you have her spayed while she is gravid, and please make sure you find a knowledgeable reptile vet whom you trust to do a major surgery. I'd also like to give you a link to website that closely follows the spaying of two female iguanas. I hope this helps. Feel free to email me anytime.
Best,
Jamie/JBug
