Thanks to Iguanamomma, Snider, and Skinny for there reponses to my first post. I acquired this Ig from a coworker of a friend of a friend who heard I kept reptiles (snakes). Yes, I made a Vet appointment for next week. I've been giving the Ig at least 20 min of sun a day plus UVB inside. Iguanamomma, I think the Ig is a boy based on the femoral pores and you were right the temp was a little high, so I raised the lamp a few inches and that seems to have solved the problem (should have got a 100W) and yes Skinny the first thing I did was throw away the hot rock. (By the way are those things good for any animal?. Snake keepers don't use them either.) I will try to get pictures of the twisted foot later this week. He basically walks on his front elbows.
Okay, here are my questions. First of all how do you entice an Ig to eat MK salad after three years of only green lettuce? He just doesn't seem interested. How long can I wait him out before letting him eat what he wants, without endangering his health?
I want to build a bigger cage for this 3yr old. Preferrably, something that will last him for the rest of his life. What is the minimum size requirements of a cage for an adult Ig to live without being extravagant. I am a teacher and I will be keeping him at school, considering I am there most of the time anyway. This puts space at a premium and the temperatures in the room can vary between 50-75. So I don't think a cage with all wire sides would keep him warm enough during the winter months. If the sides are wood how much area should still be open for ventilation. Also what is the best way to keep the cool area of a cage from being too cold? Your answers are appreciated.
