Got the recommendation to use pine bark mulch to raise humidity; the idea was knocked down. Perhaps you have already run across the reasoning behind this being a no-no. For those who might read this & don't know I'll leave a link explaining it :)
Second "why" I'll explain is the water problem. Yes, some cities do add things to their water supply to help purify it. At high levels (& maybe lower levels) it could prove harmful. You could buy a gallon jug of "pure water" and use it for your ig's drinking water. When it is empty, you could then fill it up with tap water and add a de-chlorinator to it. You can find this product at stores that sell fish supplies. One drop will do a gallon. As an afterthought, you might ask a local aquarium fish supplier if it IS necessary to treat your local water. They should know for your area; if it's safe for the freshwater fish, it should be okay for reptiles.
The other solution to a water problem is to draw up the water in to a container and let it sit overnight thus creating what is known as "stale water"....as I understand it (I'm no scientist) the "bad" in the water evaporates out or gases out.
Hope that clarifies things!
