Yes letting the water stand for 24 to 48 hours will take the stuff out of city water. I use to have to do that with my fish tank. I'd have 5 one gallon jugs sittin' around the house with dates on them. HD

A suggestion if you are concerned with humidity, is to enclose the upper half of your iguana's cage in plexiglass and then pump moisture into the area.
In general, the average home can not get close to what a natural iguana's environment
