Definitely sounds like the future of hybrid breeding to me. Maybe it's been done with another reptile and those people would know more about it. I'm not sure if the courtship routine prepares the female's body in any way. It might be the case that the female won't properly hold sperm correctly if it's not preceeded by a mating ritual. Then again, that wouldn't be terribly difficult. Just arouse the female as normal, but ditch the male when it's "that time".

Getting viable sperm would be difficult. If only you could give the male a blow-up snake! J/K.

Seriously though, I don't think the amount of sperm you'd get from "leftovers" would be enough to inseminate. Now, if there was some way to extract sperm from a male, that sounds doable.

In the end, with enough know-how and some fancy tools/chemicals (sperm would probably have to be given some nutritional substance to help it survive the ordeal), it sounds realistic to me.
