:So here is the deal I am looking to set up a tank with a desert terrain with live cacti and succulents, and I have been looking for a reptile to go into it, and I really like the idea of the horned lizards. I have always been fascinated by them but scared off, but now I think I am ready. So first things first how hard are they really? Secondly, where can I get some quality animals from, I would greatly prefer captive bred. Next how hard is it to keep the ants for them to eat, will I end up with these things all over my house? Lastly I would like everyones personal opinions, hardships, anything at all, but I also need the general specifics of it all, so thanks in advance.
:The first thing to do is read the forum. There is a lot of information, good and bad, to get your plan narrowed. You also need to be aware of the laws and protection of certain species of HLs. Purchase Wade Sherbrooke's book, Introduction to Horned Lizards. Check out hornedlizards.org, the website for the Horned Lizard Conservation Society. Horned Lizards are not a "beginners reptile." The conservation issues are real and their care is not haphazard. It is very precise and error is not an option. Lester G. Milroy III
