The REAL problem here is that nobody in the commercial gila community wants to hear that their less than stellar looking cinctum is really a very clean looking suspectum. It immediately devaluates the percieved potential as it lessens the status and deflates the ego(boy, am I going to get it now!) Although they may not agree, IMO it would be much easier if sub-specific recognition was thrown-out on the basis of pattern. That way a much simpler system of rating could be adopted that would potentially spread-out the value amongst the entire spectrum of appearance.
As for Zacks comment about waiting for the right looking gila(s) to come along before aquiring any, how realistic is that for those who would like to do so, legally? You can only get a general idea from being able to see the parents, and most people don't have the luxury of unlimited animals or opportunities to choose from. The only way to know for sure is with adults, and you'd better check the references of the source if you don't want to end up with illegal wild-caughts.
