: : I'm usually lurking, but rarely do I have much to say since topics usually revolve around captive maintenence and breeding. Actually, I saw a fairly nice cinctum yesterday. The two problems with it were, it was preserved and it was from Pinal Co, AZ. I agree that subspecific recognition of Gilas based on pattern is problematic at best. Cinctum looking suspectum pop up throughout the range of suspectum. One of the nicer looking "cincspectums" I saw came from the border of AZ and NM. With enough time in captivity and enough people breeding Gilas, people will select what they want monsters to look like. Personally, I'm waiting for the tic-tac-toe patterned monsters to hit the market.
: I don't think waiting for the right Beaded, or monster Is that difficult. It's like any other animal your considering buying. For instance If I were In the market for a particular breed of dog I wouldn't go out and buy the first puppy of that breed I saw without knowing a little something about the parents. Seeing the parents Is mandatary. I realize with reptiles that might only be removed from the wild three, or four generations ago It Is impossible to know everything that Is In the gene pool, but If the parent are excellent representatives of what your looking for, and you have a good feeling about the mans character you are purchasing them from than go for It. Why someone would go out and spend that kind of money on a gila, or a beaded without seeing the parents Is beyond me. They aren't cheap so shop around. ZACK!
