There was a facinating discusion on fungi growth on one of the Yahoo! vivarium lists lately. They are pretty harmless to the animals (most animals generaly steer clear of them), and infact good for your soil if they don't go rampent. They are naturaly composting the soil, circulating nutrients... good stuff.
I have also been wodering how you've been dealing with the drainage issue you'd mentioned? Any more problems?
