Looks more like a typical Sierra zonata (high band count, lots of black) which look like your typical parv except the first white neck ring is in a different position. Those beauties you have been posting and the ones from the central Sierra (Bass Lake) aren't your typical Sierra zonata. Well except for in those areas. My guess is you caught it east of the ones you posted previously but not necessarily at a higher elevation though I think there is some merit to that theory. My "guess" is that the multifasciata influence came from the west but further east the snakes are more influenced by populations to the north which have more black.
Are the rubber boas there southerns? Any 2 striped garter snakes this year?
: 1 zonata
: 1 Rubber boa
: 3 gophers (2 where DOR)
: 1 DOR glossy
: 1 Rosy Boa
: 1 Cal-King
: 3 Rattle Snakes (2 where DOR)
: We ran all over today. We found the rubber boa and the zonata on seperate mountain chains and everything else in between.
: Everyone can try and guess where this zonata is from but it will remain a mystery, 'cause I aint tellin'. :)
