I got 100 pounds for $24 here in Arizona. But ever since I went from dog food/sunflower seeds/cattle feed mixture (less than $30 for 150 pounds) to the rodent lab blocks my mice have been cannabalizing their babies. Since I want the snakes to eat the mice, and the mice to make more mice, this is not good. I'm planning on going back to my previous mixture, but haven't the funds until the end of the month. (I'm a high school teacher), so for now I just supplement with some bird food, helps a little, but not much.
My mixture that worked well:
Adult Dog Food (PetsMart) $7.50 - 50 pounds
Sunflower Seeds (PetsMart) $10 - $12 - 50 pounds
COB ~ Corn Oats and Barley ~ Feed store ~ $7.50 - 50 pounds.
sometimes I just used chicken scratch from the feed store. One of these days I'll wander through the feed store warehouse just reading the labels on the various feeds to see if I can find a feed that is even better for the mice. If I tell them I am feeding mice at the feed store they think I'm crazy!
