...and once or twice they let me have it for free. As a result, it is hard to buy for full price, so if I run out, I just wait until I can get another broken bag.

I breed back-to-back, and my high school cafeteria has a fixed menu, so mine get chunks of cooked hamburger every Monday, chunks of grilled chicken on Tuesday, hardboiled eggs on Wednesday, fried chicken bones on Thursday (PopEye's buckets are half priced every Wednesday night) and chunks of canned tuna on Friday. Every bit gets scarfed up, sometimes the chicken bones take two days, but it is all gone. This is in addition to my regular dogfood mix, and lab blocks only on the weekends. No cannibalization, and some would say I spoil mine, but they are classroom pets as much as feeders.

OK, I will probably get some heat for these two, but we give them crickets every other week or so, and they seem to really enjoy chasing and catching and eating them, and feeder fish once a month or so, which they eat whole, with relish.

I probably shouldn't have admitted that, but the rats really enjoy them.
