:Corns are classified as Elaphe guttata and Great Plains are classified as Elaphe emoryi.
This means that a cross between them would be a hybrid by all of our definitions! However, an intergrade typically means a NATURAL subspecific cross. Hybrid is used for a man-made (e.g., "unnatural") subspecific cross even if it is one that does happen in the wild. Soooo, even if emoryi were Elaphe guttata emoryi (which they haven't been for YEARS), that would make the creamsicle a hybrid by at least one VERY common definition...and the one I personally favor. :)
