If he's a screen climber all uncoated screens could be a problem for his feet. Hardware cloth can have some pretty rough surfaces from the galvinizing process. It may be harder to find but try to locate 1/8" plastic coated hardware cloth. This is a metal cloth so it's durable but the coating, similar to the coating on plier handles, is much gentler on their feet.
