My opinion is that it is a hybrid. However, I would disagree
with you on it being scary. There's a big difference between
the Frankenstein king sort of hybrid that's produced in captivity
and naturally occurring hybrids which widely occur in many groups
of animals. I think it's quite exciting and adds another dimension
to the what's already a fascinating animal. There have been a few
other reports of suspected alterna X triangulum hybrids and it
may indeed be a "relatively" common phenomenon. Look at the
picture of the "celaenops" in Tenant's book. It may have some
alterna in it as well.
