Chance, thanks for agreeing with me. I don't want to delete our area of snakes or other reptiles. There is an overabundance of cottonmouths here. My husband spends a lot of time around swamps and ponds and sees so many it isn't funny. People here want them dead. Wouldn't it be better to catch them and sell them to someone who could use them? I know some schools use dead ones for bio labs but that is so that they can learn about what makes these fascinating critters tick. It also could help to find cures for diseases. Catching or killing snakes or other animals when the population is too high helps to maintain health. Look at the elk population in Yellowstone and look at what is happening to the deer in Colorado. Hundreds are being killed because of a disease similar to mad cow disease. I am for protecting wildlife that's on the protected or endangered list. We have hognose snakes here. I wouldn't think of catching them to sell or keep. How many of you own one of these snakes that is wild caught or it's parents were? Come on, don't lie! Case in point. You need some outside blood for genetic reasons and we need to thin the population down some, here in Mississippi.
