I meant no disrespect towards the younger generation. My only point was that as long as a kid is living under the same roof as his/her parents/siblings, they should not be owning any dangerously venomous species. That is my opinion and it is open to debate. I have been working with youth for many, many years and while I have had some exceptional "kids" assist me in field research, maintenance of our collection, etc., those are the exception rather than the norm. I just don't know too many young kids (or adults for that matter) who are qualified to be keeping venomous species unless it is under the confines of a proper facility like a nature center, zoo, wildlife refuge, etc AND properly trained by a qualified keeper of venomous species AND have all emergency procedures in place BEFORE a bite occurs. Yes, keeping venomous snakes is not much more difficult that non-venomous (in fact, they are probably the same), however, the potential for danger is exponentially higher and you cannot afford one single mistake. One escape could put an entire household in imminent danger (or the neighborhood should the animal get outside...and it has happened all too often by well meaning and intentioned people). I'll shut up and just stick to my opinion.
: For the most part, I agree with you. Kids don't need venomous snakes. But, I don't think you can't rule out the possibility of this kid being qualified enough. I would hate for anyone just to look at my age and say I'm "grossly underqualified." I have seen my fair share of old guys who's handling ablilities are less than admirable. Keeping hots in captivity isn't very hard at all (usually); it's just more responsibility than *most* young folks are ready for. Granted, I would give 10 to 1 odds on this kid being interested in hots just as a whim so he can have a cool pet, but most people on this forum started keeping hots at a relatively young age (under 18 anyways). No offense meant to the mother in any way, but geez people, taking venom? Why in the hell would anyone want to go through pain and suffering that can come with snake venom, when there are plenty of better physchological fireworks available to anyone with a little money? Besides, snake venom isn't something you go pick up from the local hoodlum(s). And you are trying to tell me that some kid who has never had a venomous snake in his life is going to try and milk a cobra to get a momentary high?? Parents of America, most of us "stupid kids" aren't as dumb and irresponsible as we are made out to be. Give us a chance. Afterall, the future of this place depends on us...

: P.S. my troll radar is giving me a faint signal on this one. She got chills? Even so, if this is a troll, bravo! This is far better than anything we have had yet.
