"let he who is without sin casteth the first stone"
Anyone who maintains venomous snakes is a candidate for a bite.
I should know as I eventually acquired one (from Crotalus priceii of all things)
after many years of what I considered very safe venomous handling.
Of course it was my fault, I made a mistake and that one was all it took.
None of us are above it and if you have hot stuff you had better try your best to
avoid it and also be prepared to deal with it when and if it happens.
It's hard for me to imagine someone getting bitten and not having time to restrain the snake
and call for help but that looks like what happenned here. I guess its one of the things we will never know.
I just urge everyone to think "what if?" and be prepared to deal with it. Everytime something like this happens its
nail in the coffin of private parties keeping hot stuff.
By the by...when I got nailed I was safely ensconced at the zoo...so it cost me nothing...I was real lucky!
Stay safe
Peter
