: Thanks Lisa,
: does Hoku resemble your little Virgil, I know they're about the same size and age?
: The dark areas on Hoku (which are now turning light brown )show how much he's grown in the last 17 months.
: I was hoping for some comments on the torts growth
: and tried to take photos that showed how the pyramiding is smoothing out.Although bumbs are still visable on many scutes.
: At least everyone's had a chance to see Hoku now. I hope to have somebody (if I haven't learned how by then!!)post photos of Hoku later in the year. I've got my fingers crossed that he'll continue growing slowly and smoothly. But I think this year will be very telling. He'll either continue as is, or take off on a growth spurt!

but Hoku may be a tiny bit bigger than Virgil, although Virgil seems to be going through a growth spurt now. He's not as dark as Hoku. Still no noticeable bumps, but slightly (very slightly) raised flat scutes? (the light colored places between the dark dividing lines). I watch him like a hawk and am very thankful he did not have the problems so many seem to have with their hatchlings the first year. I read all of the posts just so I may notice something amiss in the early stages. It breaks my heart that some don't make it when it's obvious their owners have tried everything within their means. We've had an outrageously mild winter, so I'm hoping to get his garden going soon. Update: he has grown a bit lately. He is now a little over 3 1/4" and if I include the two pointy things by his tail he is a solid 3 1/2". Professional terminology is obviously not my forte. He feels more solid. I'll weigh him as soon as I change the battery in his scale.
