Prospective Tort Owner Q's

Hi folks, I have been keeping snakes for some time now, but I have fallen in love with Tortoises and I have decided I want to get one. I have some requirements though, and while not all ofthem wil be met I would like some suggestions as to what meets my needs. As of yet, I only have experience with Russian Tortoises, Sulcatas, and Box Turtles, and I have never owned one, these are just the ones responsible for my love of tortoises.

1. Must be smallish. It should get no larger than a foot or so.

2. Easy climate to maintain. I want one that won't cost me an arm and a leg to heat/cool/humidify.

3. Easy diet. I know that with box turtles, you can basically feed them people food, though this diet is not ideal. I want something with similar dietary requirements. I don't want ot spend a ton of money and time at specialty shops.

4. I don't even know if there is such an animal, but I would really like one that won't outlive me. It seems terribly irresponsible to me to get an animal that I won't be around long enough to care for for it's entire life. I can always find an heir or something though when I get old.

5. Cheaper is better. I'll spend more if I can get exactly what I am after, but I would rather buy sooner than later.

I am sure I left something out, but this is the gist of it.

Thanks!
