Need input on Problem. Please read.

About a year ago I made a deal to buy a pair of torts for $800. The seller agreed to a trade of $300 and some other turtles for his pair. After a few months he decided to back out of the original deal and to just get cash instead of the partial trade. This put me in a ordeal to get the cash he wanted. (Remember he already has my $300) Well to make a long story short. He sold the torts to someone else and is refusing to send me back my money. He is claiming damages to his basemest these torts did and says I am responsible for it. Am I wrong to be asking for my money back? I told him to keep $100, but he told me to F**k off. He also said now he wasn't going to give me back a penny. What do you guys think of this matter???
